Kish Island

Kish Island
Located 12 miles off the southern coast of Iran, 35-square mile Kish Island enjoys a unique and strategic position in the Persian Gulf region among scores of large and small islands. This beautiful resort island, often called the gem of the Persian Gulf, is surrounded by the sheltered waters of coral-edged lagoons. Kish has attracted many travelers and writers throughout its 3,000-year history, including Marco Polo and the Greek navy commander Niarkus, who was sent on an expedition voyage into the Oman Sea and the Persian Gulf by Alexander the Great.
Attractions
Kish is one of the most important tourist centers of Iran with the highest per capita of hotel accommodations. Investment in the private sector has developed over 40 commercial centers and complexes, including several five star hotels. Thus, it’s not surprising that Kish Island attracts visitors from all over the Middle East and, increasingly nowadays, from other countries around the world. An increasing number of Iranians have also migrated to Kish to work or invest in the island’s economy. In fact, here is the first Free Trade Zone established in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Activities
In addition to snorkeling in waters teeming with many of the world’s species of reef fish, visitors can tour the ancient town of Harireh, take a bicycle ride along a cycle track that stretches all around the island, and view water reservoirs which have provided the means to irrigate Kish Island’s parks and green areas since thousands of years.
