Krabi

Krabi town is very close to the river mouth that opens to the great Andaman Sea. Krabi river flows about 5 km through the town and opens into the Andaman sea at Tambon Pak Nam. Quite a few other rivulets originating from the mountain ranges in the province , Kao Panom Benja ; the Klong Pakasai, Klong Krabi Yai and Klong Krabi Noy, also joins the sea at this area.

Attractions

HONG ISLAND - This limestone island has a beach and is surrounded by coral reef. To get to the islands takes about one hour by boat from Ao Nang beach. AO NANG BEACH - There are around 83 small islands of various size and shapes in the bay off this beach. A boat trip or a sightseeing tour can be arranged from here. Either talk to one of the many 'long-tail' boat skippers or go on an organised tour one of the hotels or tour agencies offer. BEACH FUN - Railey beach provides a great beach area at low tide for frisbee throwing (either on sand or in the water) or a game of football with the locals. There's a permanent volleyball net too, where you can play for hours with other enthusiastic players. PHI PHI ISLANDS - The superb scenery of these islands include beaches of silvery sand, emerald green sea, coral reefs and an abundance of colourful marine life.

Shopping

Shopping in Krabi for many is an exciting and pleasurable experience. Whether you are shopping for a suit or bargain hunting, looking for that extra special 'something' for someone special back home whatever it is, shopping in Thailand can be fun. Street vendors often seem to be on every street corner showing you their goods (with a calculator in one hand) from silk scarves, hammocks and sarongs to laser pens etc. If you are interested in any of the wares you find, then it is time to start bargaining, If you are not interested in what is on offer, simply smile and continue on your way.

Food

It is said that no one shall starve in Thailand; this goes well with the Krabi province as well. In each and every street, there shall be a restaurant. Western food shall be available at all island resorts. Thai food is highly spicy. Unless you specify your requirement of non - spicy food, you are likely to get fire in your mouth. Coconut curries are very popular but they are likely to be spicy. Yellow Squid Curry - Patpong Curry Pla Mulk - is a popular dish. Keng Kai or chicken curry shall very tasty and palatable if you can put up with some amount of spice.
