St. Louis du Rhone
A useful port, being one of the major entrances to Europe's system of inland waterways. In addition, it is one of the cheapest places to over-winter in the south of France.
Attractions
Downtown, you visit the Tower St. Louis (XVIII) which was used as station of monitoring and refuge for the populations. Today the Tower shelters the tourist bureau. On the first floor, you will visit the superb ornithological collection which gathers 168 naturalized birds. On the terrace of the second stage you will have a panoramic sight on all Camargue, the channel St. Louis, the mouth of the Rhone and the marshes salt-water. Do not miss the sheep-fold of Favouillane (beginning XIX) which is one of the last traditional sheep-folds of the Camargue, it is one of largest of the area and of the time (50m length and 12m broad) it today is still occupied by a shepherd and his herd.
