Downtown Savannah remains essentially as General Ogelthorpe planned it in 1732. During the spring, Savannah´s most glorious season, millions of flowers are in bloom and many of the over 1,000 historic structues are open to the public.

Attractions

Sand, sea and salty breezes have a charm all their own, but when combined with a dash of history, fresh local cuisine and an array of outdoor adventures there’s a guaranteed draw to Tybee Island. One of the nation's oldest public museums, the Telfair Museum of Art, now includes a dazzling new complex facing Telfair Square. It's surrounded by a wonderland of historic architecture and it's only a short walk from the historic King-Tisdell Cottage, the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum and the birthplace of Girls Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low.

With award-winning restaurants and nationally known chefs, Savannah is becoming as famous for food as it is for its history. Enjoy low-country classics like creamy she-crab soup, or cosmopolitan offerings like delicate scored flounder with apricot glaze. Or, try old-time soul food like a crispy plate of fried chicken and fresh collard greens.

The U.S. dollar (USD) is the official currency. Traveler's checks and credit cards are also widely accepted.
