Hyder

Hyder
Hyder, the “Friendliest Ghost Town in Alaska,” is a prime place to see bears in their natural habitat. At the Fish Creek Observation, watch as brown and black bears feed on salmon swimming upstream.
Activities
- Grab a bite to eat at the Glacier Inn where the “$20,000 Walls” are papered with bills signed by visitors.
- Cross the Canadian border into Stewart – Hyder is actually the only Alaskan city that uses a Canadian area code – and visit the town’s Gold Rush-era saloons and Toastworks, a toaster museum and café.
Currency
The U.S. dollar (USD) is the official currency. Traveler's checks and credit cards are also widely accepted.
